The vineyards of Assennato Winery are all located in the southeastern area of Sicily, within the Val di Noto region.
The vineyards in the rural districts of San. Lorenzo and Buonivini represent the beating heart of our winemaking tradition. Recently, production has been expanded with the planting of lands in C.da Nicolella, near Avola, where Nero d’Avola reaches its fullest expression.
San Lorenzo area
Early 1900s
Our connection with Nero d’Avola dates back to the early 20th century, when Francesco, owning lands in the rural district of San Lorenzo in the Noto area, produced and marketed this wine. At that time, the wine was renowned for its purity and high alcohol content. Great-grandfather Francesco was passionately involved in wine sales; part of the production was sold directly from his cellar, while the rest, along with wine from other producers, was exported to France and northern Italy in large tanks departing from Marzamemi. These shipments were used to fortify other wines with lower alcohol levels.
Buonivini area
1980s
In the 1980s, Corrado decided to purchase land in a renowned rural district for quality wine production—Buonivini—where he established both espalier and bush vine cultivation. His tireless work was continuously supported and encouraged by his wife, Lina.
In the 1990s, together with his children, we were among the first in the area to venture into bottling pure Nero d’Avola. Buonivini is much more than a wine-producing area; it is the beating heart of our family, where traditions and memories intertwine with a passion for wine. Here, Grandma Lina loved gathering the whole family during celebrations, sharing a glass of wine and reminiscing about the good old days.
Nicolella area

It is here in Contrada Nicolella, a charming area in Avola just 10 minutes from the beautiful city of Noto, that the dreams of Vincenzo (Corrado’s son) come to life. This is the place where Vincenzo envisions the future of his children and enthusiastically plants the first hectares of Nero d’Avola. In our Contrada, Nero d’Avola reaches its fullest expression, being the native land of this renowned grape variety. From this land comes the red wine bottled as IGT Avola, with a lively character — a symbol of renewal and the highest expression of Avola’s wine tradition.
